About Data Twin: Data Twin functions as a virtual replica, embodying the characteristics and interactions of its physical counterpart, particularly in governance. In administrative contexts, it serves as a centralized repository capturing comprehensive information about administrative units like villages or districts, becoming a pivotal tool for accessing, managing, and interpreting crucial data. The motivation behind the Data Twin lies in enhancing decision-making by identifying and understanding interconnected data points, often structured using Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) taxonomy. This approach streamlines decision prioritization within government agencies, promoting cohesive processes across departments. Leveraging open data sources, a digital data twin supports real-time monitoring, analysis, and simulation across sectors such as smart cities and industry. As technology advances, including AI and IoT, data twins are evolving into dynamic tools for predictive analytics and autonomous decision-making, driving innovation and optimization globally.

The comprehensive and meticulously organized “Karnataka At A Glance” (KAG) dataset serves as a rich foundation for the development of a data twin. By integrating the diverse attributes and structured nature of KAG, a digital data twin can be created to mirror the real-world entities, processes, and dynamics of Karnataka’s administrative landscape. This data twin can dynamically reflect changes in various domains such as agriculture, health, and education, offering real-time insights and simulations for informed decision-making. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the data twin can play a pivotal role in monitoring progress, identifying areas for intervention, and optimizing resource allocation towards achieving sustainable outcomes.

About the Project

The project involves leveraging Open Data from the Government of Karnataka, provided in PDF format, spanning five years of statistical data across the state’s districts. Each year’s dataset is structured into chapters representing various departments such as “Rainfall,” “Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture,” “Education,” “Social Welfare,” and “Women & Child Development.” These chapters contain sub-chapters represented as tables; for instance, the “Education” chapter includes tables like “No. of Lower Primary Schools and Students” and “No. of Higher Primary Schools and Students,” while “Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture” includes tables such as “Land Utilization” and “Production of Important Crops.” Each table comprises multiple attributes; for instance, the table “Production of Cereals” includes attributes like “Rice,” “Jowar,” and “Bajra.” The objective is to transform this data into a queryable format aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. SDGs encompass 17 goals addressing global challenges including poverty eradication, environmental protection, and ensuring prosperity for all by 2030. Each goal has associated targets and indicators; for example, the goal related to food security includes targets like ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for all, with indicators such as the prevalence of food insecurity. Making this dataset queryable will facilitate deriving valuable insights to support policy-making and aid in achieving SDGs effectively.

About the Data: The “Karnataka At A Glance” (KAG) dataset, meticulously compiled by the government across 31 districts, serves as a robust foundation for developing a digital data twin. This dataset, featuring approximately 1180 attributes spanning agriculture, health, education, and more, is structured for easy categorization and analysis. Available for over five years, KAG ensures reliability and accessibility as a vital information source. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), KAG facilitates monitoring progress and optimizing resource allocation towards sustainable outcomes. Its structured nature and SDG alignment make KAG indispensable for policy formulation, providing insights into socio-economic development, infrastructure, and impact assessment. Leveraging KAG, the project aims to analyze trends, identify interventions, and measure progress, cementing its role as a cornerstone for informed decision-making and achieving developmental goals.

More Information

The “Karnataka At A Glance” (KAG) dataset, released by the government of Karnataka, stands as a comprehensive repository of information meticulously organized across 31 districts and various domains, including agriculture, health, education, and more. With approximately 1180 attributes, the dataset’s structured nature facilitates easy categorization and analysis of data. Moreover, KAG has been publicly accessible for over five years, ensuring its reliability and longevity as a valuable data source.

The KAG dataset is strategically aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reflecting the government’s commitment to measuring progress in line with global sustainability objectives. This alignment underscores efforts to address developmental challenges and track progress towards achieving sustainable outcomes.

The inherent structure and alignment of the KAG dataset with SDGs make it an invaluable tool for policy formulation and decision-making processes. Offering a detailed snapshot of various aspects of the state, KAG enables policymakers to gain insights into socio-economic development, infrastructure, and resource allocation. Additionally, it serves as a foundation for assessing policy impact, particularly in advancing the SDGs, empowering policymakers to make informed decisions and prioritize interventions effectively.

The proposed project relies on the Karnataka At A Glance (KAG) dataset as its primary data source. Leveraging KAG, the project aims to analyze trends, identify areas for intervention, and measure progress towards developmental goals. As a cornerstone for research objectives, KAG provides a comprehensive and reliable source of data for analysis and decision-making processes within the project.
